Hello my name is Not. I am Thai, from
Songkhla Province in the south of Thailand. I am Muslim. I am
sad that many people do not want to come to my province to teach
English. It is beautiful with many beaches nearby. The schools
in Bangkok have many teachers but in my area many schools cannot
find the teachers.
I asked TEFL International to help me and they are kind to offer
the free program for teachers who want to come teach in Songkhla
Province. I hope you will join me.
TEFL International believes in developing intercultural
opportunities. We do not believe in segregation in any of its
forms. We fear that schools in the predominantly Muslim south
are not receiving the advantages of the schools in other areas
of Thailand because of the lack of English teachers. We hope
that with this program can help level the playing field.
Thailand is a beautiful and peaceful country and it has been my
home now for over a decade, but it also has a certain amount of
political instability. The worst areas are the three provinces
in the very far south. For this reason these three provinces are
not included in this program.
Different governments have issued warnings about travel to
Thailand. Some suggest that the entire country is not safe.
Others recommend that Bangkok and the extreme south + Songkhla
be avoided. Yet in the last 20 years (or more, I simply have not
done research any farther back) only one Westerner has been
killed or injured from political instability. There are more
Westerners killed or injured in ONE DAY in drunk driving
motorcycle accidents in Pattaya. Yet it would be remiss if we
failed to acknowledge the warnings of several Western
governments.
